In June 2018, Sure, a direct-to-consumer insurance app, launched RideSafe a new on-demand insurance product underwritten by Chubb. RideSafe provides accidental medical and AD&D coverage for rideshare passengers in an Uber or Lyft vehicle.
Once a passenger links their Sure account with their Uber and Lyft accounts, any time they hail a vehicle through either ridesharing app, they are automatically charged $2.40 by Sure for a Chubb-issued $10,000 accidental medical and $100,000 AD&D policy valid for 24 hours. The policy covers unlimited rides within the 24-hour period.
